Postponement of BACO due to COVID-19
In light of the statement released by the four surgical Royal Colleges of the UK and Ireland on 13 March, ENT UK and the BACO executive have regretfully taken the decision to postpone July’s BACO conference until a later date, which we will be confirming very soon. We do this in accordance with the surgical Royal Colleges’ advice to cancel all non-essential travel for surgeons and trainees until the end of summer, at which point the situation will be reviewed. Our aim is to maximise availability to help health services throughout this critical period, and minimise any risk of actively transmitting the virus to other groups of medical professionals.
I am sure all of our members will be taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of their families, colleagues and patients, and will understand the necessity for these measures. It is very unfortunate that BACO will not be able to go ahead at the original time, but there will be ample opportunity once the situation has abated to come together as a specialty to explore the issues currently affecting our field and celebrate the many advances. When the conference is rescheduled, we will of course honour all existing attendee bookings, and will be able to help delegates with refunds where necessary. The BACO awards will go ahead, possibly as part of the ENT UK Annual Meeting this autumn.
In the meantime, The Royal College of Anaesthetists is developing a website dedicated to information about COVID-19, aimed specifically at medical personnel, which we believe will be a useful resource to physicians and health professionals working with infected patients. Your commitment to this and similar work through your membership of ENT UK is crucial, and we greatly appreciate it, along with your understanding and patience in unprecedented circumstances.
We apologise for any inconvenience this situation may have caused. We were looking forward to welcoming all our delegates in July, and very much hope we will still be able to do so once BACO has been rescheduled.
In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact us at email@example.com with any questions.
